This presentation educates everyone about the origins of Navajo Chapters and the historical legislative impacts that helped shape our Navajo Nation Local Governance Act (LGA). The discussion includes examples of the differences between governance certified Chapters and non-governance certified Chapters. The panel also describes other historical impacts in the aftermath of the LGA. The presentation is a teaching tool to help Navajo constituents navigate the laws of the Chapter and where to find them so they can be knowledgeable contributors in their communities.

Information regarding homesite leases can be found at www.nnld.org/home/homesite . The website has information on the eligibility requirements, steps to obtain a homesite lease, things to consider when applying for a homesite lease, listing of cultural resources consultants and private surveyors, and the homesite lease application. The current homesite lease regulations and relevant legislation are also included on the website. There is also a Frequently Asked Questions section that has useful information for potential applicants and current homesite lease holders.

Information regarding the Biological Resources Land Use Clearance Policies and Procedures Map can be found at www.nndfw.org (click on Navajo Natural Heritage Program; click on Land Use Planning). The map identifies the different areas (Areas 1-6) and helps direct development to areas where impacts to wildlife and/or their habitat will be less significant. It is recommended that proposed homesite leases be within Area 3 (Blue-Low Sensitivity) and Area 4 (Gray-Community Development).
